One of the most common problems in anyone’s relationship is communication. Communicating with your spouse is not to be confused with taking about ones feelings because they are very different.

The majority of fights can actually be prevented with a bit of communication before things start to escalate.

If you have a hard time discussing an issue without fighting about it then take a break. That doesn’t mean that in the middle of a fight you should stomp away and lock yourself in a room.  Simply say that you don’t want to fight about it and you need to calm down for a few minutes so you can have an actual discussion about it.

Fighting won’t help you find a solution to your problem it only makes it worse and there is no way you are communicating with your spouse if you are seeing red.

The old myth about never going to bed angry is incorrect because after you have had time to think about it and get a good nights rest you are able to see things more clearly and actually have a conversation.  If all else fails then you need to agree to disagree and move on.

A common mistake in communicating with your spouse is thinking your significant other should know what you want them to do.  This can cause some real problems when they don’t do it.  Often times hurt feelings and anger can be avoided all together by simply telling your spouse that you would like help cleaning the house or that you would really like to go on a date.

Simply communicating your wants, needs, and desires can dramatically improve your relationship in a very short amount of time.
