What pace is right for you?
The first is the pace you go. Be sure it is a pace you feel comfortable with and not one someone else has set for you. You’ve just walked out of a long term relationship, you are going to have a few scars that need to heal and that can take some time. If you need to cry, cry your heart out but make sure your ready to move on before you do.
Go on a lot of dates? Why?
Okay, here is a tip that might make you think I’m off my rocker. When your ready to start dating after divorce again, try to go on as many dates as possible. I don’t mean to go on a date with any schmuck that asks you, but you could always get a cup of coffee with them. It is good practice and will help you build back up your confidence. One of the hardest parts of dating after divorce is that you self esteem needs worked on. This is a great way to start rebuilding it plus you can then decide what you are actually looking for or not looking for.
Because you have been with the same person for a long time you are going to have to relearn what you would like to find in a future boyfriend so you don’t settle for less then the very best. The more you gain confidence, the happier you will become. Once you are happy with who you are the chances that you will find exactly who you are looking for increase dramatically. Until then, it is either MR. Right Now or sitting home alone on Saturday night watching reruns while your ex is out and about, living it up. He will probably not have many problems dating after divorce. You don’t want that to happen, do you? Do you really want to pick up the Sunday paper and see his face smiling back at you from his engagement announcement photo? Really? Of course you don’t!
The time it takes for your heart to heal is different for everybody. One thing is certain though; dating after divorce is hard. Chances are you will go on some bad dates where you come home and just think it is completely hopeless and that all of the good men are taken. But you will also go on good dates and float through the door and realize that there might just be some good guys out there still.
The two biggest things to do before you start dating after divorce is to build your self esteem back up and make sure the time is right for you to date again, not when someone else tells you your ready.
